Scottsdale and the greater Phoenix area have some of the hardest water in the United States. With total dissolved solids often exceeding 500 parts per million, mineral buildup is a significant factor in appliance maintenance and longevity.

Viking dishwashers are directly affected by hard water. Calcium and magnesium deposits accumulate on spray arms, blocking the small holes that distribute water. This leads to poor cleaning, spots on dishes, and cloudiness on glassware.

Viking ice machines produce their best results with filtered, softened water. Hard water creates cloudy ice cubes, reduces production capacity over time, and accelerates wear on the water distribution system. Install a dedicated filter for your ice machine water line.

Steam features in Viking ovens and microwaves use water that, if hard, leaves mineral residue inside the steam generation system. Regular descaling per Viking guidelines is essential in Scottsdale homes.

Even refrigerator water dispensers and filters are affected. Hard water reduces filter life, so replace filters more frequently than the manufacturer standard if you notice flow reduction.

Whole-house water softeners are the most effective solution. They reduce mineral content for all appliances and plumbing fixtures simultaneously. If a whole-house system is not feasible, point-of-use filters for kitchen appliances provide targeted protection.

Descaling treatments should be part of your quarterly maintenance routine for dishwashers. Run an empty cycle with citric acid or a commercial descaler to dissolve mineral buildup inside the wash chamber and spray arms.

Our technicians include hard water assessment as part of every Viking maintenance visit. We can measure your water hardness, recommend appropriate filtration, and descale appliances that show mineral accumulation.
